I knit this furry little skirt for my granddaughter after seeing her wrap a fuzzy scarf around herself and call it a dress. That scarf looked so cute as a skirt, that I had to make this for her.

She is 2-1/2 and I used a little over two skeins of Lion Brand Fun Fur yarn on size U.S. 10 circular needles, knit in the round. This simlpe A-line skirt is super fast to knit, and easy to adapt for older girls. I love how fluffy it is, and she loves it to.

Following are instructions on how to knit the skirt, in sizes small, medium, and large for toddler through school-age girls. S [M, L].

Directions

Cast on 96 stitches [106, 116]. Note: This is the bottom edge of skirt.

Join, being careful not to twist stitches.

Knit in the round for 3 [4, 5] inches.

On next round, decrease one stitch every 11 stitches (knit 11, K2tog) until you reach end of round.

Continue knitting in the round for another 3 [4, 5] inches.

On next round, decrease one stitch every 10 stitches (knit 10, K2tog) until you reach end of round.

Continue knitting in the round for another 3 [4, 5] inches.

On next round, decrease one stitch every 9 stitches (knit 9, K2tog) until you reach end of round.

Continue knitting until the skirt has reached the length you want it to be -- keep in mind it will stretch sideways and ride up a bit, so you might need to knit it longer than you think. Or, if you want mini-skirt length, keep it a little shorter. For my granddaughter I knit until the skirt was about 15 inches long.

Once you have reached the desired length, then knit one more inch or so for a waistband.

Cast off knitwise loosely.

Cut yarn, leaving a 24” tail.

Finishing

Measure the waist size of the toddler or little girl you are knitting for, add two inches. Cut a piece of 1" non-roll elastic to the length you came up with. Using a sewing needle and thread, stitch the elastic into a loop, overlapping the ends by 1".

Using large tapestry needle, fold edge of skirt down enough to fit over elastic. Holding elastic loop in place, with a large tapestry needle and 24" yarn tail, stitch the top edge of the skirt down over the elastic working you way around until the entire top edge of skirt is sewn down over the elastic. Keep your stitches loose and even as you go.

Secure all yarn tails to inside of skirt with large tapestry needle; trim excess.

You're all done!
