
This adorable little sweater caught my eye recently when I stopped in at my LYS. One of the owners of the shop designed and knit it for her friend's toddler girl. It looked so yummy I asked if she would be willing to share the pattern on my website, and she agreed.
Materials
- 2 skeins Plymouth Encore Colorspun Worsted striping effect yarn in color #7512 (Yarn "A")
- 1 skein Plymouth Encore Worsted in color #449 (Yarn "B")
- 2 skeins Plymouth Imperiale Super Kid Mohair in color #4107 (Yarn "C")
- Size U.S. 5 and 7 circular needles
- 2 stitch holders
- Tapestry needle
Directions

Note: Directions are for size 0 to 3 months (18" around chest). Numbers in parentheses ( ) refer to sizes 6 - 9 months (20" around chest) and 12 months (22" around chest), respectively.
Guage is for worsted weight yarn, 5 stitches to the inch.
Back
1. Using yarn A and larger needles, do a provisional cast on of 47 (49, 55) stitches.
2. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measure 9" (10", 12") from cast on edge.
3. Bind off loosely.
Rib and Ruffle for Back
4. Using yarns B and C double stranded together and smaller needles, pick-up and knit 47 (49, 55) stitches from provisional cast on.
5. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1”, ending with a wrong side row.
6. Drop yarn B. Continuing with yarn C, change to larger needles and knit into the front and back of every stitch (these increases will make the ruffle).
7. Continue in stockinette stitch for another five rows.
8. Bind off very loosely.

Front
9. Using yarn A and larger needles, do a provisional cast on of 47(49,55) stitches.
10. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 6 1/2" (7 1/2", 8 1/2"), ending with a wrong side row.
11. Begin neck shaping: Knit 19 (19, 21) stitches.
12. Place next 9 (11, 13) stitches on stitch holder.
13. Using second skein of yarn A knit remaining 19 (19, 21) stitches.

14. Continue knitting, decreasing 1 stitch at neck edge every right side row four times [14 (15, 16) stitches remain].
15. Continue even in stockinette stitch until piece measures 9" (10", 12") from cast on edge (same as back).
16. Bind off loosely.
Rib and Ruffle for Front
17. Continue ribbing and ruffle edging as for back.
Sleeves (make two)
18. Using yarn A and larger needles, do a provisional cast on of 29 (31, 33) stitches.
19. Working in stockinette stitch increase 1 stitch at each end of third row, and every following fourth row, until you have 48 (50, 54) stitches.
20. Continue even in stockinette stitch until piece measures 9" (10", 11").
21. Bind off loosely.
Rib and Ruffle for Bottom Edge
22. Continue with ribbing and ruffle edging as for front and back.
Note: Be sure the right side of edging faces the wrong side of sleeve.
Collar
23. Sew shoulder seams together.
24. With wrong side facing, using yarn B and smaller circular needle (or DPNs), pick up and knit 19 (20, 21) stitches down left shoulder, knit front stitches from stitch holder, pick up and knit 19 (20, 21) stitches up right shoulder, then knit back stitches off stitch holder [total of 66 (72, 78) stitches].
25. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for about 1-1/4”.
26. Continue K1, P1 ribbing with yarns B and C double stranded together until ribbing measures 2”.
27. Drop yarn B, change to larger needles and, using yarn C only, knit into front and back of every stitch around.
28. Continue in stockinette stitch, making sure the right side of ruffle faces the wrong side of sweater.
29. Knit another 5 rows.
30. Bind off very loosely.
Finishing
31. Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
32. Fold over collar and cuffs, sew into place.
