Well, sometimes the river of life does not flow exactly where we think it should, or will. The book project will not be one I complete this summer afterall … but do not despair. I am releasing three stocking patterns this summer, and they are available for sale now right here on my website or if you prefer, via my Etsy Store. The photos on this page show the stocking designs I am including in one pattern featuring all three designs.

I love knitting Christmas Stockings, I think more than any other item, for a several reasons. First of all, they make lovely heirloom holiday gifts for friends and family. Even if you live in a warm climate, you can have the fun of working with wool without worrying that the giftee won’t be able to wear it (hopefully no one will walk around with their Christmas Stocking on their foot).

Christmas Stockings are also affordable projects that can be knit up in one weekend if you are a fairly fast knitter … but not much longer than that even if you are a bit slower.

They are also wonderful projects to embellish. My suggestion is that if you would like to knit one or more Christmas Stockings this year, be sure to gather some interesting items for embellishments such as ribbons, bells, miniature toys, buttons, etc.

Generally speaking, you will generally need 200 to 300 yards for your main color, and then smaller amounts for accent colors. Ribbon yarns are great as accents, as is angora or yarns with fluffy, snow-like features.

For the stockings featured in this pattern I used size U.S. 10 16" circlars and dpns (the red and white stocking), and Size U.S. 6 dpns (set of five) for the other two stockings (the ginger colors stocking, and the all-white stocking).

I have put a great deal of care into creating and publishing these stocking patterns. The instructions are precise and detailed, with photos and notes to help with details. My intention when I put together the detailed instructions is to make the directions very clear, easy to understand and follow.
